The project, which emerged from an earlier series of explorations around prince Mohammad Street, seeks to re-imagine such transitional public spaces as staircases and courtyards. Transforming one of these staircase into a museum by turning its 36 drainage-pipe outlets into display cases challenges its merely utilitarian purpose and recasts it as a social gathering place in its own right. On display in this makeshift wall museum are visually interesting pieces made from garbage found throughout the area, much of it from other staircases. The overall intention is to create a site-specific occasion for public dialogue among daily users of such spaces: local families, school-children and other passer-by. |
